When you hear today’s Gospel reading how does it resonate with you? When you hear that word “hypocrite” do you feel that way about yourself? Do you offer your grace and sacrifices at the Altar? Does heaven feel within reach?

Perhaps very hard and personally challenging questions. They should be! Yes, at times my thoughts, words, judgments and actions are very hypocritical. Then I realize we are human, we are sinners, and we have to constantly seek mercy and forgiveness. We cannot have these lofty thoughts of ourselves at the expense of others. Success is the result of humility and fidelity. We are called by God to be great, to do great things.

Today as I reflect and know that was a pretty stern reading, we all have a Pharisee in us. We don’t always practice what we preach, and the beauty is God knows this. He loves us in our greatest moments and he accepts us when we turn away from him. How many times do we fail? How many times have we hurt others or judged others? We know we fail. And like a child who falls of his/her bike, we must get back up, we must seek mercy and forgiveness and me must strive each day to be like a child of God. And be thankful every single day for the grace and blessings we have. Today will pass and tomorrow is not a guarantee. Live and love. Be blessed!!!
